Why Goat Tales?
This website is entitled Goat Tales, but it is not all about goats. In our family, we have had lots of pets: cats, dogs, tropical fish, salt water sea creatures, hermit crabs, hamsters, guinea pigs, turtles, both water turtles and the kind you find in your backyard!, parakeets of all colors and personalities…just about any animal you kind find in a pet store, we’ve had it in our house!
But it wasn’t until we moved to the mountains and got our three goats that I got motivated to look into the Bible and see exactly what God says about animals. After all, He created them. And for some reason, although most of our pets were personable and interesting, the goats really piqued my curiosity about God’s intentional purpose in blessing mankind with all manner of creatures!
It’s important to realize that human beings are the only creation made in the image of God and therefore have a special place in His heart and eternal plans. But that doesn’t mean that God doesn’t delight in these creatures that He has made. And we are to value, enjoy, and care for them. They are a special gift to us, and in Proverbs 12:10 it says that a good person takes good care of his or her animals, but wicked people are cruel to animals.
So I’m going to share some of the things I learned about animals from the Bible in this website, as well as other sources of information. I think you will find the content interesting and often entertaining. One thing is clear when you start looking at the details of animals…God, as the Master Artist, had a really good time making these creatures!
Going along with the title of this blog, Goat Tales, not sure what it is about goats, but often when I watch them just going about their goat lives, I am inclined to derive life lessons from them! I’m convinced that when God made all of the animals and creatures, He may well have had in mind that we should learn from them. After all in the book of Proverbs, for example, we are told to go to the ant, and observe, and gain wisdom about diligence! (Proverbs 6:6-8)
And that will be kind of a theme in all these blogs about different animals, but the “goat tales” blogs will be specifically focused on the life lessons I have learned from our goats: Lucy, Sadie, and MIriam (named after three favorite aunts in our family).
Who is this website/blog site for? Obviously, there would be an appeal to children, and if you have kids or grandkids, I hope you will share the blogs with them (read to them if younger). But the blogs are for everyone really, the young, and the young at heart. If you are home schooling, the blogs can be a jumping off point for further discussion or study. So please follow the blog if you are so inclined. It just might brighten your day!
